Aside from the Mad Men era establishments Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book 1962 The Cookbook Maven Retro Cooking from the Cookbook Maven:  Mad Men Holiday Gift Guide Pick & Giveaway 7that contributed recipes to our book, we relied on dozens of vintage cookbooks from the 1950s and ‘60s to create a cookbook true to the era, including two classics that were always on display on Betty Draper’s kitchen counter, Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook (the so-called “red plaid” for its distinctive cover) and Betty Crocker’s Hostess Cookbook.
