Aside from the Mad Men era establishments that contributed recipes to our book, we relied on dozens of vintage cookbooks from the 1950s and ‘60s to create a cookbook true to the era, including two classics that were always on display on Betty Draper’s kitchen counter, Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook (the so-called “red plaid” for its distinctive cover) and Betty Crocker’s Hostess Cookbook.

We turned to other classic cookbooks of the era, as well, such as Clementine Paddleford’s How America Eats for the Lindy’s cheesecake recipe,  and other lesser known cookbooks such as Nina Mortellito’s The Small Kitchen Cookbook, to show us how Joan would gave made a Crown Roast in her tiny New York apartment.
